Australian energy company Woodside is working to bring its Persephone gas project offshore Australia on stream next year. According to the company’s third quarter report, Woodside is sticking to its recently announced plan to bring the field online in the second half of 2017. To remind, the original plan had been to start Persephone gas production in early 2018, but this has been revised as Woodside has improved efficiency at the project. In its third quarter report, Woodside said that the company began reservoir drilling and completion activities at the Persephone field. This is ahead of the subsea installation campaign scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2016.
The A$1.2 billion ($916 million) Persephone Project, approved in 2014, consists of two wells tied into a subsea production manifold with production fluids transported to the existing North Rankin Complex (NRC), part of the large North West Shelf project.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Repsol Sinopec, with partners Statoil and Petrobras, has completed the Gavea A1 well in the ultra-deep pre-salt Block BM-C-33 in the Campos basin, offshore Brazil.
The well encountered a hydrocarbon column of 175 m in a good-quality reservoir of silicified carbonates of the Macabu formation.
The well reached a total depth (TD) of 6,230 m and was tested successfully, producing around 16 MMscf of gas and 4,000 bopd on a 32/64 in. choke, Statoil said in a statement.
This is the fourth appraisal well in the license, which comprises the Seat, Gavea and Pão de Açucar (PdA) discoveries. In 2013-2015, the consortium drilled and tested the Seat-2, PdA-A1 and PdA-A2 appraisal wells.
With Gavea A1, the consortium has finalized the appraisal activities in BM-C-33 and will now evaluate the sub-surface data and assess lean and cost-effective development concepts.
Repsol Sinopec Brasil (35%) is operator of BM-C-33. Statoil (35%) and Petrobras (30%) are partners.
Statoil is to take over operatorship of the license, a transition which is expected to take place in the third quarter.

Wright Drilling & Exploration, Inc. announced today the successful drilling and testing of its first oil well project, the Loma Linda No.1, a site located northwest of Okemah in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma.
Wright Drilling & Exploration began construction at the site in late March, spudding this well on April 9th and hitting its total depth (TD) target of approximately 3,800 feet within five days. Log evaluations and core samples taken from its wellbore confirmed the presence of multiple hydrocarbon bearing zones and now completion procedures will take place on this well.
The Loma Linda No. 1 is an off-set oil well adjacent to existing oil-producing wells with multiple stacked pay zones. It is the first in a multi-phase oil and natural gas exploration project planned by the company on the same 200-acre lease. Construction of the next well, the Loma Linda No. 2, is expected to begin next month. Based on geological surveys, soil sampling and statistical studies of other oil producing wells in the area, Wright Drilling & Exploration believes its initial projects are predicted to offer solid returns and long lasting production of recoverable oil and natural gas.
Partnering with Wright Drilling & Exploration Inc. on this endeavor is C&C Productions LLC.

Maersk Oil is set to make further job losses in Denmark, Norway and Scotland as it looks to reduce its costs.
The company said around 40 positions will be affected by the move which come despite significant financial reductions over the last 18 months.
Roles in Copehnagen, Stavanger and Aberdeen will go as a result of the decision.
Chief executive Jakob Thomasen said the move was “deeply regrettable” but “necessary” in the low oil price environment.
He said: “Today’s changes are necessary to ensure our organisation reflects the current market and aligns our costs to our activities. We must continue to balance the realities of the tough market conditions with the growth agenda for Maersk Oil.”
Maersk Oil has already reduced its exploration activities over the past 12 months to focus further on merger and acquisition opportunities.
The company reported 65% lower exploration costs of $57million in the first quarter of the year compared with $162million for 2015.

Breitburn Energy Partners LP, Los Angeles, filed voluntary petitions on May 16 for Chapter 11 in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The firm reported debt of $3.4 billion as of Mar. 31.
The firm says cash from operations, cash on hand, and a $75-million debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing facility will provide it “more than adequate liquidity to fund its operations during the restructuring process.”
Breitburn’s DIP financing facility lenders have offered to arrange an additional $75 million of DIP financing at the firm’s request. The Chapter 11 cases will facilitate the restructuring of Breitburn’s balance sheet.
Breitburn is a master limited partnership with producing and nonproducing crude oil and natural gas reserves in Ark-La-Tex, the Midwest, the Permian basin, the Midcontinent, the Rockies, the Southeast, and California.
Faroe Petroleum, the independent oil and gas company focusing principally on exploration, appraisal, development and production opportunities in Norway and the UK, is pleased to announce the commencement of the Faroe-operated Brasse exploration well 31/7-1 in the Norwegian North Sea (Faroe 50%).
The Brasse prospect is located immediately south of the producing Brage oil field (Faroe 14.3%) and, if successful, could be tied-back to the Brage facilities or alternatively to other nearby installations. The well will target the Jurassic aged sandstones in a four-way dip-closed structure with a total vertical depth of approximately 2,750 metres in the Early Jurassic Statfjord Formation.
The water depth at the site is 118 metres and the well will be drilled using the semi-submersible Transocean Arctic drilling rig. The co-venturer in the PL740 licence is Core Energy AS (50%).
Graham Stewart, Chief Executive of Faroe Petroleum commented:
'I am pleased to announce the spudding of the Faroe-operated, Brasse exploration well located in close proximity to our producing Brage oil field. This is a near field exploration target which provides significant upside potential to Faroe, in one of our core areas. On a post-tax basis the well is expected to cost Faroe less than £2 million.'
