Geological resources of shale gas in Hunan reached 7.66 trillion cubic meters

As a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, He Jishan led the major project of Hunan Science and Technology named “Potential evaluation and electromagnetic detection system of Hunan shale gas resource”. By researching and calculating, geological resources of shale gas in Hunan reached 7.66 trillion cubic meters and ten favorable targets were optimized for the exploration and development of shale gas.

Though the shale gas resources in northwestern Hunan was rich, it was unable to reach the exploration depth of shale gas with the conventional electromagnetic method because of the terrain and other factors. The project team which was led by He Jishan put forward the wide area electromagnetic method creatively and developed a series of instruments to solved this problem successfully.
