Exploration & production company VNG Norge has decided on the preferred development solution for the Pil & Bue discoveries, located in license PL586 in the Norwegian Sea. VNG is the operator of the license with 30% interest, Spike Exploration Holding also has 30% while Faroe Petroleum Norge holds 25%, and Pure E&P Norway 15% stake.
Faroe Petroleum said on Friday that the partners in the Pil & Bue discoveries have decided that a subsea development solution tied back to the Njord platform in the Norwegian Sea is the preferred concept for development of the Pil & Bue discoveries. Three competing concepts were considered in the process leading to the final selection by the license partners. A subsea installation tied back to the Njord platform has emerged as the best option and with the full support of the Njord partners, Faroe said. Going forward, the development solution will be matured through the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) stage towards a formal field development plan.

Since a massive gas leak in Aliso Canyon forced thousands of Porter Ranch residents to temporarily leave their homes, Southern California Gas Co. has been on the hook for months of relocation fees. Obviously, that's not an ideal situation for the utility company. In its latest attempt to entice people back into their homes, SoCal Gas is offering cleaning services free of charge: move back in, and someone from the gas company will come over and help you tidy up.
Don't expect SoCal Gas to fold clothes or empty the dishwasher though. This is a very specific kind of cleaning. My News LA reports that the company will be scrubbing "carpets, counter tops, tables, flooring, furniture, windows and window sills" to remove any harmful chemicals that might have lingered after the leak. Though SoCal Gas says that air quality tests have shown that homes in Porter Ranch are safe, many residents remain unconvinced. The company is apparently hoping the cleaning service will change their minds. "We are pleased to offer this toxicologist-approved home cleaning service to address residents’ concerns and give them confidence that their homes are clean and ready for their return," said Gillian Wright, vice president of customer services for SoCal Gas.
In spite of understandable safety concerns from Porter Ranch residents after the Aliso Canyon leak was plugged in February, SoCal Gas has tried repeatedly to rush people back into their homes. Initially, the utility company gave residents only 48 hours to return to their houses, but that timeline has been pushed back considerably with the help of city and county officials. Recently, residents complained that the company was also behind on reimbursing relocation expenses.
Members of the Porter Ranch community might also be concerned about the possibility of future leaks. Earlier this month, monitors found slightly elevated levels of methane in the area, and last week another leak (from a well operated by a different company) spewed out 30 gallons of oil. Meanwhile, SoCal Gas is trying to speed up inspections of its aging Aliso Canyon wells in order to get the facility back into operation as soon as possible.

LONDON -- Intertek has launched an onsite Coriolis flow meter calibration service, delivering technical expertise and cost and efficiency savings to its oil and gas clients.
Coriolis flow meters are one of the most reliable instruments with which to determine flow measurement and have become increasingly commonplace in oil and gas flow measurement systems. However, they must be calibrated periodically to ensure they are performing as accurately as possible.
As part of a new service, Intertek has invested in a highly specialized mobile Coriolis master meter skid unit to conduct Coriolis flow meter calibration. The unit performs to a greater level of precision than widely encountered in the market, with better than 0.1% accuracy. In an industry handling a high-value product, such as oil and gas, the accuracy of measurement equipment is crucial for correctness and profitability. Mismeasurement of oil and gas quantities can be extremely costly and affect an operators’ overall profit margin.
“Historically, calibrating Coriolis flow meters has proved challenging to operators. It usually involves the movement of large units between offshore and onshore sites, which requires downtime and can be costly. The mobile Coriolis master meter skid unit will now allow us to offer this service onsite, saving our clients time, money and the inconvenience and risk of moving their equipment,” Greg Dinkelman, business development manager, Calibrations and Metering, Intertek Exploration and Production, said.
The skid unit’s relatively compact size means it can be easily transported to offshore environments with restricted deck space, or to sites in very remote locations. An additional benefit is that calibration can be conducted under normal operating conditions, rather than within the artificial environment of a laboratory.

Gazprom and Rosneft announced a plethora of new trade and technology cooperation agreements at a trade fair in the Russian far eastern city of Vladivostok in early September. Turkish maritime authorities have reopened Istanbul's Bosphorus Strait to transiting tankers after shutting it earlier on Saturday for several hours following what the government said was an attempted coup by a faction in the military.
The Bosphorus is one of world's most important choke points for the maritime transit of oil with over three percent of global supply - mainly from Russia and the Caspian Sea - passing through the 17-mile waterway that connects the Black Sea to the Mediterranean. It also ships vast amounts of grains from Russia and Kazakhstan to world markets.
Shipping agent GAC said traffic had reopened after being shut for several hours for security reasons and ships were now being able to travel again through the Bosphorus which divides Istanbul into European and Asian sides.
A spokesman for Russia's pipeline monopoly Transneft said the main Black Sea port of Novorossiisk was operating normally and had enough tankers near the port to continue loading operations uninterrupted until July 25 regardless of what happens in the Bosphorus.
Reuters ship tracking data showed that around 10 oil tankers were anchored off the coast of Istanbul on the southern side of the strait, still waiting for instructions to sail through the narrow passage.
