Mexico To Tender Licenses To Exploit 10 Deep-Water Gulf Areas
Wednesday, December 16, 2015 (Reuters)
MEXICO CITY - Mexico will tender licenses to explore and drill 10 deepwater areas in the Gulf of Mexico as part of a landmark opening of its long-closed oil sector, the country's energy regulator said on Wednesday.
Four of the areas in the Perdido Fold Belt are expected to contain light crude, regulator CNH said.
No date has been set for the auction, but it will be decided in the third quarter of 2016, CNH President Juan Carlos Zepeda said, adding the auction will "absolutely" take place next year.
The deepwater contracts are some of the most prized assets available to foreign investors after the government opened up its long-shuttered energy sector last year, in part to better exploit its deepwater reserves.

ConocoPhillips’ plan to sell its stake in SNE field off Senegal to Woodside Petroleum hit a speed-bump on Tuesday as a junior partner attempted to buy time to pre-empt the deal at the same time it announced an increase in the size of the field.
ConocoPhillips agreed in July to sell its 35 percent stake in the deepwater SNE field offshore Senegal to Woodside for $430 million (326.20 million pounds). At the time, the SNE field was estimated to hold 561 million barrels of oil.
On Tuesday, Australian explorer FAR Ltd,ConocoPhillips’ partner in the field, released a statement that increased the estimate of oil resources for SNE to 641 million barrels and estimated the field covered more than 350 sq km (135 sq miles), based on recent appraisal well drilling at the field. FAR Ltd also said that Conoco failed to comply with the terms of their joint operating agreement as it relates to the proposed sale of its stake, and as a result, the clock had yet to start for it to exercise its pre-emption rights. FAR currently owns a 15 percent stake in the SNE field.
Woodside declined to comment, but said last week it was just awaiting approval from the government of Senegal and did not see any obstacles to the deal. FAR has advised ConocoPhillips of this and both parties have been urged by the Government of Senegal to reach an amicable solution on this matter.

Russian oil company Rosneft has found a gas condensate discovery at an exploration well located in the Nam Con Son basin, offshore Vietnam.
Rosneft started drilling the well, the company’s first drilling project as an operator in the international waters, in March 2016 with the Hakuryu-5 semi-submersible drilling rig. The rig is owned by Japan Drilling Co. (JDC). Rosneft said on Thursday, in its operating results report for 2Q 2016, that the drilling operations carried out in the shelf of Vietnam from the Hakuryu-5 drilling rig were completed during the quarter. Drilling operator is RN-Vietnam.
According to the company, the exploration well PLDD discovered gas condensate field at Block 06.1. The company stated that the volume of reserves and commercial attractiveness of the discovery are yet to be confirmed. Rosneft also said that the discovery could be developed by subsea completion and then tied-back to the existing Lan Tay platform in Block 06.1. The Lan Tay platform is also operated by RN-Vietnam.

Manitok discovers second Glauconitic zone – now has 4 prospective Glauconitic channels at 4 depths
Manitok discovered a second prospective Glauconitic zone (a different channel than the targeted zone), above the targeted LG zone. Manitok will test the newly discovered zone during the completion operation in order to determine its potential for future development. Manitok has already identified two other prospective Glauconitic channels in Carseland using seismic and well control.
With the new discovery, there are now four Glauconitic channels, each at different depths, that are prospective, the company said. Manitok has only drilled into the one LG channel to date.
The second well in Carseland is currently being completed and the third well in Wayne is anticipated to be completed shortly. The total cost of drilling the three wells was about $2.65 million, however, the last two wells were drilled for under $0.75 million each. With a larger drilling program, Manitok believes it can achieve drilling costs closer to $0.7 million per well given current market conditions. The completion costs will be provided once all three wells have been completed.

MELBOURNE, July 14 (Reuters) - Australia's Woodside Petroleum has agreed to buy ConocoPhillips' deepwater stakes off Senegal, including one of the world's most promising recent oil finds, for $350 million.
The acquisition includes a 35 percent interest in the 560 million barrel SNE deep water oil discovery and the FAN oil discovery farther offshore, with Woodside gaining the option to become operator for development and production of the fields.
"We are taking advantage of our balance sheet to acquire a world-class asset that fits well with our capabilities, offers significant future upside in exploration and line-of-sight to near term oil production," Woodside Chief Executive Peter Coleman said in a statement.
The move is key for Woodside which is short of near term growth prospects after giving up multibillion dollar plans to develop gas off Israel, postponing plans to develop the Browse liquefied natural gas project off Australia, and being spurned in a takeover offer for Oil Search.
The fields' operator is currently Britain's Cairn Energy Plc, which owns 40 percent and is looking to sell down its stake.
Australia's FAR Ltd owns 15 percent of the fields and Senegal's state-owned Petrosen holds 10 percent.

Output from Egypt’s Nooros field has reached 128,000 boed (700 MMcfgd) just 13 months after its discovery, Eni said in a statement announcing the production landmark.
The field is currently producing from seven wells; however, with the drilling of additional wells, the field is expected to reach its maximum production capacity of about 160,000 boed in the spring of 2017.
"This record-setting production represents an important milestone achieved just 13 months after the discovery and ahead of schedule thanks to the success of the last exploration wells drilled in the area of ??Nidoco and the drilling of new development wells," Eni said in a statement.
Nooros field, in the Nile Delta offshore, was discovered in July 2015 and brought on-stream that September.

Norway’s Statoil and Brazil’s Petrobras have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) by which they aim to strengthen their cooperation in Brazil.
The intention of the MoU is to evaluate joint participation in future tenders for exploration areas and to increase upstream collaboration in producing fields in the Santos and Campos offshore basins. The agreement also sets out a potential framework for cooperation on value creating opportunities in the gas value chain. The agreement was signed by Petrobras’ president and CEO Pedro Parente and Statoil’s CEO Eldar Sætre during the ONS 2016 conference in Stavanger.
It follows the agreement in July 2016 whereby Statoil acquired Petrobras’ 66% operated interest of the BM-S-8 offshore license in the Santos basin, subject to government approval.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. agreed to buy Gulf of Mexico oil assets from Freeport-McMoRan Inc. for $2 billion and said it will use revenue generated by the offshore wells to develop its U.S. oil fields on land.
The deal doubles Anadarko’s existing stake in oil wells in the deepwater Lucius development to approximately 49%, adding the equivalent of about 80,000 net bopd, the producer said Monday in a statement. The acquisition will generate $3 billion of additional free cash flow over the next five years that will help boost production in West Texas’ Delaware basin and the DJ basin centered in Colorado, Anadarko said.
The purchase is another sign that U.S. drillers that have survived two years of upheaval in oil prices are returning to deal-making. EOG Resources Inc. last week announced a $2.5-billion purchase to expand in the Delaware, one of the hottest areas for acquisitions. The next day, Apache Corp. said it had quietly amassed 350,000 acres in the region where it had found “massive" new quantities of oil and natural gas.
The Gulf acquisition “is a catalyst for the company’s oil-growth objectives, with quality assets being acquired at an attractive price to create significant value," Anadarko CEO Al Walker said in the statement.
