DJ Energy Leaders Convene in Texas as U.S. Oil and Gas Output Surges America’s growth as an oil and gas superpower, and the uncertainties companies face due to disruptive technologies and regulations, are set to be buzzy topics in Houston starting Monday as many of the world’s leading energy players gather for the annual CERAWeek conference. From OPEC Secretary General Mohammad Barkindo to Chevron Corp. Chief Executive Mike Wirth to BP PLC Chief Executive Bob Dudley, some of the biggest names in oil are set to speak at the conference, formally known as CERAWeek by IHS Markit, during the week. The conference will also feature appearances by William Clay Ford Jr., chairman of Ford Motor Co., whose move to electric vehicles has ramifications for the oil markets; and Dow Chemical CEO Jim Fitterling, who is scheduled to speak about the expansion in plastics made from petrochemicals — and its risks。
Administration will have a large contingent on hand including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Energy Secretary Rick Perry, and there is sure to be talk of American “energy dominance” as they tout the surge in U.S. oil and gas output and exports. The U.S. now produces about 12 million barrels of oil daily, thanks in large part to record output from the Permian Basin of West Texas and New Mexico. That production boom has propelled the country toward being a net exporter of crude and refined fuels, a distinction the U.S. has achieved intermittently in recent months, according to the Energy Information Administration.
