Like many large oil and gas companies, Total plans to invest conservatively and use excess free cash flow to reduce debt rather than reinvest in new projects as oil prices surge. Total’s first priority with an expected cash windfall is debt reduction, but HSBC expects the company to raise its buyback target by February of next year
