Dubai’s Emirates National Oil Co., or ENOC, continued its growth in refined product sales last year, selling a total of 249 million barrels as it expands its trading activity and retail operations, the company said Sunday. The total was up from 247 million barrels in 2016 and 222 million barrels in 2015, company records showed. The company, which is wholly owned by the Dubai government, said it achieved one of its highest to date throughputs in 2017, with 100% utilization rates at its Jebel Ali condensates refinery. ENOC is currently undertaking a $1 billion expansion to boost refined product supplies by 50% to 210,000 b/d and meet Euro V emissions standards. It signed a contract with France’s Technip in September 2016 for the engineering, procurement and construction of a new 70,000 b/d condensate processing train, boosting capacity from 140,000 b/d currently. Additional processing units will also be added, including a new LPG/naphtha hydrotreater, an isomerization unit, kerosene hydrotreater and a diesel hydrotreater. The refinery is currently producing 500 ppm gasoil for domestic consumption, but the new diesel hydrotreater will allow it to produce 10 ppm gasoil. Commissioned in 1999 in the emirate of Dubai on the Persian Gulf coast, the refinery imports condensate for processing into petroleum products and has become a key supplier of jet fuel to the emirate’s two major international airports. It also awarded a construction contract earlier this year for a new 16.2 km (3.85 mile) pipeline extension to Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai South, which it said will be operational before 2020, carrying 48,000 cu m/d of jet fuel. Its network of jet fuel pipelines aims to meet the demand for jet fuel at Dubai Airports up until 2050.
