The proprietary design and functionality of Abrado’s MAXIMO Marine Riser Tool adapts consistently to the multiple ID’s found in a marine riser profile range of 18”-20” ID.
Debris residue is common in deepwater marine risers after drilling operations and during completions and/or intervention operations. Failure to remove the debris from the marine riser walls periodically can be catastrophic for completion operations and result in non-productive time dealing with debris that has found its way downhole.
This tool enables cleaning of the marine riser while either latched or unlatched to the BOP. This avoids the need for cleaning the riser manually on deck with all the HSE hazards and costs involved.

First Successful Gulf of Mexico MAXIMO Marine Riser Casing Scraper Run Enables Operator to Permanently Abandon Well
SCOPE:
Run Abrado MAXIMO in 20”, 133# casing, 18.730” ID, 18.542” drift to ensure that the casing ID was clean and ready for an inflatable packer to be set for permanent abandonment of well
OPERATOR CHALLENGES:
Operator needed to set an inflatable bridge plug inside 20” Casing. 20” casing ID had considerable amounts existing wall cake from past cement job. 20” casing ID needed to be scraped and cleaned to enable successful packer setting and well abandonment.
ABRADO SOLUTION:
The Abrado MAXIMO, a new tool that implies strength, agility and size that allows for 360 degree scraping and cleaning inside marine risers and casing sizes between 18”-21” OD. The new patented design allows for the scraper blocks to individually conform to interior profiles and reduce the possibility of hang ups.
RESULT:
Abrado’ s MAXIMO tool allowed operator to get a successful setting of their inflatable packer at depth of 300’ inside the 20” casing ID. The MAXIMO tool was run through 326’ of 20” casing ID, cleaned cement wall cake from ID. Only 1 trip needed to clean casing ID successfully. Operator reported that the Abrado MAXIMO tool enabled successful permanent abandonment of the well.
