About 17% of offshore oil production in the Gulf of Mexico is being shut in as operators take safety measures for Tropical Storm Cindy, according to a report from the government’s Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. “Personnel have been evacuated from a total of 40 production platforms, 5.43% percent of the 737 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico,” the report says.
