US oil production rises for a fifth straight week to 9.1M bpd, its highest level since February 2016, and just 500k bpd below a record 9.6M reached in the summer of 2015. EIA weekly data adds fuel to fears US oil companies — and shale firms in particular — will be relentless in producing and selling as much oil as they can even if that means oversupplying the global market and pressuring oil prices lower.
