Big Oil Companies Stronger After Surviving Oil Slump
The world’s biggest oil companies have emerged from the price slump of recent years, battle hardened and better positioned than before, says Bernstein. The companies have scrambled since 2014 to bring down costs and spending and now seem able to do more with less. Despite nervousness from some investors that spending could begin to rise again, putting pressure on free cash flow, Bernstein expects capital budgets to remain under tight control through the end of the decade. “Overall we believe the outlook is improving for our companies with our anticipated peak capex now behind us,” it says.
